My Design Principles

As an artisan, the work I produce has the privilege of being welcomed into people’s homes and lives. My aim is always to ensure that what I make, including the experience of buying, is positive and considered for everyone involved.

This page outlines the principles that guide every aspect of my work; from how materials are chosen and designs are developed, to how the business is run and relationships are built. This shapes not only the objects I make, but the way I work, they way work is presented, sold, supported over time and how my business plays its role in the local community.

Integrity

I’m committed to working with integrity in how I make and sell my work; using solid hardwood, avoiding imitation materials or shortcuts, and taking responsibility for the impact of my business and my decisions.

Accessibility

I’m committed to keeping accessibility at the forefront of my practice. By actively implementing digital and in-person adjustments, offering fair, tiered pricing across different budgets, & using my platform to advocate and support accessibility organisations.

Quality

I’m committed to producing work to a high standard of finish and durability, allowing the character of the material and the handmade process to show while never compromising on strength, function, or workmanship.

Humanity

I’m committed to keeping my work human-led, valuing craft, handmaking, and clear authorship at every stage. I always credit collaborators openly, avoid AI-generated artwork in my process, and support independent artists wherever I can.

Community

In an increasingly divided world, local community groups, charities, and small businesses are vital to our collective wellbeing. As such, I’m committed to supporting, spotlighting, and engaging with organisations and groups within the Greater Manchester community relating to craft, art, and disability, with a dream to one day host my own studio community for neurodivergent makers.

Transparency

I’m committed to clear authorship, honest photography and media with no filters, crediting other creators’ ideas and intellectual property, and never using stains or dyes, so you always know exactly what you’re buying.

Inclusivity

I’m committed to working in ways that are welcoming and supportive, trying to create an environment where people of different backgrounds, identities, and neurodivergent experiences feel respected and included.

Authenticity

Being Autistic, the ability to live and present authentically without masking is deeply important to me, and that extends into my work. I aim to create pieces that are honest to the materials, the craft and ensuring that what you see reflects the maker behind them.

Longevity

I’m committed to always using 100% solid hardwood, never veneers or imitation “wood-effect” materials. I design each piece with ageing, care, and repair in mind, and for as long as I’m woodworking I’ll offer advice and support to help extend its lifespan.

Responsibility

I’m committed to acting responsibly in how I source materials, manage waste, and consider the wider impact of my work. This also extends to the organisations I choose to work with; I do not produce work for the following companies: weapons manufacturers, anyone linked to modern slavery, gambling, A.I, or unethical employeers.
