Reviews & Testimonials Policy

Last updated: October 2026

Reviews matter to small makers, and they only mean something if they're honest. This page explains how I collect, check and publish reviews, so you can trust what you read.

Where reviews come from

I collect reviews and testimonials in three ways:

Every review I publish comes from a real customer who has bought from me, received a piece as a gift, or commissioned work from me.

What I don't allow

  • No fake reviews. I never write reviews myself, pay anyone to write them, or ask anyone to review a piece they haven't owned.

  • No reviews from people close to me unless the connection is clearly stated alongside the review. My partner, family and close friends don't leave reviews of my work.

  • No hiding bad reviews. If you've had a poor experience, I'd rather know and put it right. Ideally contact me first ross@spectrumwoodwright.co.uk or in person at a market or pop-up event. However negative reviews will never removed just because they're negative.

Gifts, giveaways and reviews

Sometimes I invite members of my Private Patrons List to share reviews and photos in return for exclusive gifts, giveaways or free personalisation. When I do:

  • the gift is the same whether your review is positive, mixed or negative

  • I never ask for a particular rating or wording

  • any review I publish that was given in return for a gift is clearly labelled as gifted

  • if you post about a gifted piece on your own social media, please label it as gifted or an ad

  • gifts are never offered for Google reviews, because Google doesn't allow it

How reviews appear on my website

My website spotlights a selection of reviews. A selection is just that: it isn't a rating or a summary of every review I've received. You can read every Google review I've received on my Google Business page, and I link to it wherever I show reviews.

  • I don't change the meaning of anything you write. I may shorten a long review, but only with your permission.

  • I always ask before publishing your review or photos on my website or social media.

  • I credit reviews with your full name where you're happy for me to, or your first name if you'd prefer. I don't publish anonymous reviews, because a review with no name behind it isn't transparent.

When I'll remove a review

I'll only remove or decline to publish a review if it:

  • is fake, or isn't based on a real experience of my work

  • was given for a gift without saying so

  • contains personal details about someone else

  • is abusive, threatening or hateful

  • has nothing to do with my work

If you ask me to remove your own review, I'll do it.

Spotted something wrong?

If you think a review on my website or social media is fake or misleading, email ross@spectrumwoodwright.co.uk. I'll look into it and act quickly.
